ABOUT US PACIFIC CONSORTIUM

US Pacific Consortium (USPC), an associate member of Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN), aids and facilitates partnerships using advanced research and education networks in the western Pacific region. Current US Pacific Consortium members are:

Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) - CENIC is a not-for-profit corporation serving California Institute of Technology, California State University, Stanford University, University of California, University of Southern California, California Community Colleges, and the statewide California K-12 school system. CENIC's mission is to facilitate and coordinate the development, deployment, and operation of a set of robust multi-tiered advanced network services for this research and education community.

University of Hawai'i - The University of Hawai‘i system comprises all public higher education in the State of Hawaii with its ten campuses and five education centers on six islands. The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa has become a research university of international standing by building on its strengths, which include an unparalleled natural environment and a tradition of outstanding Asia-Pacific scholarship across all disciplines. The University manages and supports a number of world-class science and research assets, including the Mauna Kea Observatories, the Maui High Performance Computing Center, the Waikiki Aquarium and several surface and submersible research vessels.

Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) - The Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP) is the US Pacific Northwest's access point to the nation's leading edge, high bandwidth, next-generation Internet networks, including Internet2/Abilene, National LambdaRail, high performance federal nets, and high performance commodity Internet offerings. PNWGP is an Internet2/Next Generation Internet testbed and R&D site, enabling and inviting local and national testbed and project participation. PNWGP is a state of the art, super high-speed and low-latency peering and exchange point for networks interconnecting via the Pacific Wave International Peering Services and/or PNWGP.

Pacific Wave Pacific Wave is a project of the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC) and the Pacific Northwest Gigapop (PNWGP). Designed to enhance efficiency of Internet traffic, Pacific Wave peering services offer excellent opportunities to pass IP traffic directly with other major national and international networks; reduce costs associated with IP traffic that would otherwise transit commercial carrier circuits; and increase efficiency by directing traffic as quickly as possible to the target network/organization, thus reducing the number of 'hops' required to complete for the data to get to its destination.
